Make sure you have right color outfits to go with the scenery at your session!

Do you want to find out what to wear for your outdoor family photos?  Your outdoor family photo session is coming up and you’re going through your mental checklist: get haircuts, wax those eyebrows, pick the outfits.

In your outdoor family photos, I recommend picking two to three colors and coordinating everyone’s outfits around that color scheme.  For example, navy and cream with a pop of gold.

What to wear to a family session | Classic Neutrals

The Classic Neutrals: There is timeless elegance with neutrals and earthy tones. Think of beiges or cremes – these colors look great in open fields, such as Laguna Canyon, San Juan Open Spaces, Alta Laguna Park and Mission San Juan Capistrano.

What to Wear to a Family Photo shoot | For bold and vibrant clothing

Bold & Vibrant: This is for our fashionistas! Stand out with bright and bold colors that pop – just be careful to avoid clashing colors in group photos. This color scheme works great in an urban environment to show off your style. The best locations in Orange County for these types of sessions include The Lab, The Camp, Downtown Laguna Beach, Orange Circle, Los Rios Historic District, Newport Fun Zone and the Santa Ana Arts District.

What to Wear to an Outdoor family session | Pastel Perfection

Pastel Perfection: Use oft and dreamy pastel hues to create a whimsical atmosphere. These color schemes will look great during a sunset at the beach, San Juan Capistrano in the flower fields, Laguna Niguel Botanical Gardens, or Sherman Gardens in Corona Del Mar.

What to Wear to a family shoot | Mixing and matching patterns

Mixing Patterns: Embrace creativity with playful patterns that complement each other. You can add hints of polka dots to a tie, or a hair bow, or even socks. Orange County Family Photographer | When you look back in 20 years, what will be the most valuable thing you own.

Why should you book your Orange County Family portraits now?

At this time of year when your schedule is overflowing with activities, the last thing you may want to schedule is your OC family portrait session. Yes, you want gorgeous images of your children for gifts and for your holiday card, but the thought of getting everything together, let alone fitting the session into your schedule may seem daunting.

I want to challenge you to slow down and ask yourself, when I look back in 20 years, what will be the most valuable thing I own? When your children look for pictures of you, what will they find? When they think about family experiences and memories, will there be beautiful portraits filled with laughter, love and lots of silliness? Exist in photographs for your children, for yourself, and for the people who love you.

Listen, I get really busy as the holiday season approaches. For me, as a portrait photographer, it was always really tough to get my kids together and schedule my own photography session during my busiest time of year. But I made a promise to my family, that I would create a beautiful family album to give to my husband, every year of my kids’ childhoods. Now that they are grown and in college, the first thing they gravitate to when they are home for the holidays with their friends, are the family albums. They laugh at the outfits, at how silly they acted, the naked butt cheeks when they were babies, and they just enjoy looking back over our family history.

Take the time to capture your family annually and make sure you incorporate a place, an outfit or a special prop that helps to capture your own family’s story year after year. Incorporate your kids favorite toy or activity to make sure you look back on those images and they create stories and history for you and your kids. And then pull it all together with a beautiful wall display, a custom designed album or framed gift prints for your home.

Table Rock Beach High School Senior Guys session

I am often ask why I love photographing high school seniors at Table Rock beach, especially the guys.   This Laguna Beach destination not only has a beautiful sandy beach, but also lots of rock formations to give more interest to the portraits.  There are patches of flowers and green as well as a cave with a burnt black background.  This beach is as close as your high school senior portrait session will get to both a beach and an urban environment.

For Stephen’s session he decided to mix up a casual look, with a more formal look at the beach.  In order to make the suit feel authentic, we loosen his tie and untucked his shirt.   Of course we also incorporated a lot of UCLA gear.  Here are a few of my favorites from the session.  Enjoy!

Destination Laguna Beach for High School Senior Portraits

Orange County High School Seniors often want to book their session in a field or at a cool city background.  Since Orange County beaches are in our backyard, it doesn’t seem as special of a location for a session.  But graduates from out of state dream of having their session at one of our spectacular beach locations.  Whether they book at Table Rock Beach, The Montage Resort Beach or Picnic beach, the background never disappoints.

Isabella’s Mom booked a last minute beach session while visiting Laguna Beach.  She grew up in Orange County and then moved across the country to New York.  This session was so special because most of their family vacations are spent in Laguna Beach or Newport Beach.  I love that Isabella wanted to keep it really natural and organic.  Here are some of my favorites from her session.

Heisler Park High School Senior Portraits

Heisler Park and Picnic Beach Senior Portrait Session

Heisler Park is located on a gorgeous bluff overlooking picnic beach.  It is a perfect location for a High School Senior portrait session.  Orange County high school seniors always want a lot of variety in the background.  Since this park in Laguna Beach has both lush foliage and wide beaches it has the perfect variety.  With amazing vistas, gorgeous rock formations and long sandy stretches of beach your high school senior will get a variety of looks without having to go very far.

A few weeks ago I photographed the beautiful Alyssa both at Heisler Park and at the beach.  I just love Alyssa’s style and her big beautiful eyes.   The last session we celebrated with their family was 8th grade graduation, so seeing her change and grow into such a confident adult made my heart happy.  Here are just a few of my favorite images from her session.
